How rankings work

How the Forged Rating works, what it is built from, and what is never shown.
Last updated Sep 28, 2026 · Results through Nov 9, 2025 · 1 tournament included
Early ratings. Built from 1 tournament so far, so most ratings are provisional: they rest on only a few matches and will move as more results are added. Players with equal ratings share a rank.

Forged Rating

How strong a player's actual results are, adjusted for who they played. Beating a higher-rated opponent counts for more; the tournament's name does not.

Forged League's own rating.

Form

What is happening recently: the last results against what the ratings expected, and the rating change over 30 days.

Forged Rating, in plain words

  • Only the result counts — win or loss. Scores are recorded but a 21–5 win moves a rating exactly as much as 22–20, so nobody gains by running up a score.
  • Each player starts at 1,500 with high uncertainty. The first results move the rating a lot; as evidence builds, it settles. A rating is Provisional under 5 rated matches, Established from 15 matches once it has settled.
  • Every tournament is processed as one block, oldest first, and every match in it is judged against the ratings from before the tournament — the order matches were played in cannot change the outcome.
  • Time away makes a rating less certain; it does not make it lower.
  • A rating never resets when a player moves up an age group. Singles, doubles and mixed are rated separately; each pair also has its own record.
  • Not rated: walkovers, byes, unplayed matches, disqualifications, and retirements before a full game was completed.
  • A correction to a result rebuilds the history from that point, so ratings always equal what the corrected record produces.
  • Players are only ranked against people they are connected to through matches. Two groups that have never played each other are not ordered against each other.

What is public, and what never is

A player's competition profile is public: name, age group, discipline, Forged Rating and Forged Rank, results, form and head-to-head records. It exists without a Forged account.

Never shown: member numbers, contact details, birth dates, addresses, account or guardian information, identity-review records or any internal record of where the data came from. Forged League does not collect contact details, birth dates or addresses for rankings at all. Players who share a name are kept apart; Forged never merges people by name.
